Reviewed concrete example
Collect only the visible timecode
The safest way to copy YouTube video durations manually is to transcribe the displayed duration for each intended item and nothing else. Do not paste a playlist URL, video link, page source, title, channel name, or thumbnail text into the calculator. One line should contain one timecode in SS, MM:SS, or HH:MM:SS form.
YouTube’s interface can vary by device, view, account state, locale, and future product changes. This guide does not promise that a duration badge always appears in one fixed place. Find the visible duration in the interface you are using, confirm it belongs to the intended video, and mark the row pending if no reliable time is shown.
Work in numbered batches
Before copying, note the expected number of relevant videos. Then transcribe in batches of five or ten. Number the lines outside the timecode when reviewing, but paste only the time values into the core textarea. A batch boundary gives the eyes a natural place to stop and compare counts.
For example, a source section appears to contain eight items. Transcribe the first four as 6:20, 11:45, 9:08, and 14:30. Pause and confirm that four source positions correspond to four lines. Continue with 7:55, 22:10, 5:40, and a pending mark in the notes because the final duration is not visible. Do not invent zero or omit the problem silently.
The calculator list should contain seven values until the eighth is resolved. Its valid count of seven agrees with the reviewed input, while the external note records one pending item. A grand total is still incomplete, even though every pasted line is valid.
Separate transcription from correction
During the first pass, capture the shapes exactly as displayed. During the second pass, compare every line back to the source. During the third pass, run format validation. Mixing these activities makes it easier to skip a row while fixing another.
Common transcription errors include exchanging adjacent digits, dropping a leading hour, typing a semicolon, copying 1:08:05 as 1:08:50, and entering 8m 5s instead of 8:05. The parser catches format errors but cannot catch every plausible wrong value. 18:05 and 18:50 are both valid, so visual review remains necessary.
Preserve order even when the sum does not need it
Addition is commutative, but list order helps locate mistakes and supports later progress calculations. A fully watched-video list usually follows the same sequence as the source. Reordering during transcription can make a current-position snapshot difficult to reconcile.
If the source has modules, keep separate batches and use the grouped sum. Module labels can live in group fields or private notes; the core parser needs only duration lines. Avoid adding descriptive data merely because a textarea is available.
Handle missing and unavailable items honestly
A video may have no visible duration in the current view, may be inaccessible, or may no longer belong to the intended snapshot. Mark its position outside the calculator and decide whether the plan should exclude it or wait for clarification. Do not enter 0 unless the source duration truly is zero, because zero can disguise missing work.
The tool cannot discover omitted or unavailable items. A manually copied list represents what the viewer reviewed, not every historical entry or a platform-certified playlist. Include the review date in any saved summary.
Use keyboard and screen layout thoughtfully
Choose a comfortable zoom level and arrange the source and notes so line movement is easy to follow. On a narrow screen, switching repeatedly between applications can increase errors; a small batch may be easier than copying a long sequence at once. Follow device accessibility settings and take breaks appropriate to your needs.
Do not use automated scraping, page-source extraction, browser-console scripts, or credentials as a shortcut under this product workflow. The site is built for visible manual transcription and does not instruct users to bypass platform controls.
Privacy advantages and limits
Duration-only lines reveal less than URLs or titles. They stay in active browser memory and are not uploaded by the calculator. Still, someone looking at the screen, clipboard history, an extension, or a shared device may see them. Reset after use and manage copied summaries according to the context.

Frequently asked questions
Should I paste the title beside the duration?
No. The core parser accepts only timecodes. Keep optional private notes separately if needed.
What should I do when a duration is not visible?
Mark the source position pending and treat the total as incomplete rather than inventing a value.
Can the validator catch swapped digits?
Only when the result violates format rules. A plausible but wrong timecode requires comparison with the source.
Why use batches?
Small groups make count checks and second-pass review easier than one uninterrupted transcription.
Copy the first five visible durations, compare each one back to its source position, and run validation. Continue only when the batch count and ledger agree, preserving pending items in a separate review note.
