Describe progress with durations, not account history

YouTube playlist remaining time can be estimated from three manual facts: a known source total, the durations of videos already completed in full, and the elapsed position inside the current video. The browser subtracts watched source seconds from the total. It never reads watch history, player state, a playlist URL, or an account.

This model is more accurate than counting completed videos when lengths vary. Finishing five short clips may represent less time than half of one lecture. Duration-based subtraction gives every watched second the same weight.

Enter the completed portion in two layers

First enter the reviewed 1× total. Next paste one duration per fully watched video. The completed list uses the same SS, MM:SS, and HH:MM:SS validation rules as the core parser. Finally, enter the full duration and current position of the one video in progress. If no video is open partway through, select the checkbox and leave those current fields blank.

For example, a playlist total is 4:10:00. Three completed videos last 38:00, 42:30, and 27:30, totaling 1:48:00. The current video is 50:00 long, and the displayed position is 18:00. Watched source time is 2:06:00. Subtracting that from 4:10:00 leaves 2:04:00. The current video itself has 32:00 remaining.

The completion ratio by duration is 7,560 watched seconds divided by 15,000 total seconds, or 50.4%. That percentage differs from a completed-video count because the in-progress position contributes source time.

Resolve impossible progress

The current position cannot exceed the current video’s full duration. A position of 52:00 inside a 50:00 video is rejected rather than clamped. It may reflect a transcription error, a different version, or an outdated total. Correct the source facts before calculating.

Watched source time also cannot exceed the known total. If the completed rows plus current position are larger, one of four things may have happened: a video was counted twice, the total was copied before the list changed, the current video is already included among completed rows, or units were entered incorrectly. The tool identifies the conflict but cannot choose which input to change.

Invalid completed lines remain visible and excluded. A provisional result can be shown when valid progress exists, but it carries an incomplete warning. A deadline calculation should wait until every excluded row is resolved.

Source remainder versus clock remainder

The result is 1× source time. Playback speed can reduce media clock time, while breaks and notes add ordinary time. In the example, the 2:04:00 remainder at 1.5× becomes 1:22:40 of media. If the viewer plans two fifteen-minute note blocks, the schedule becomes 1:52:40.

Do not divide the completed time and remaining time under different unstated speed rules. If past behavior does not matter, speed can be applied only to the future remainder. State that choice in the copied summary.

Progress can drift when the list changes

A manual total is a snapshot. If videos are added, removed, edited, made unavailable, or watched out of order, the known total and progress list may no longer describe the same version. Recheck the current source before an important plan. The tool does not monitor changes or reconcile a history.

Skipping a section changes actual viewing but not automatically the manual current-position method. If a viewer jumps ahead, the displayed position still represents source progress, while the skipped material was not experienced. Decide whether the question is source time remaining or content actually watched and label the result honestly.

Privacy of the progress snapshot

Names and URLs are unnecessary. Durations and position remain in active page memory, with no watch-history request, platform cookie access, upload, database, analytics payload, or saved session. Reset removes the snapshot. The operator cannot restore it.

On a shared device, avoid optional descriptive notes and clear any copied summary. This site’s independence and local calculation do not control browser extensions, clipboard history, or the underlying platform.

Frequently asked questions

Should the current video appear in the completed list?

No. Include only fully watched videos there; enter the current position separately to avoid double subtraction.

What if I am between videos?

Select “No video currently in progress” and leave the current fields blank.

Does the tool know which videos I watched?

No. It uses only the durations and position you enter.

Can I apply playback speed to the remainder?

Yes, after calculating the 1× source remainder, use the speed tool and state that only future media time is adjusted.

## Build a dated progress snapshot

Confirm the known total, paste only fully completed durations, and read the current player’s displayed source position. Review the subtraction ledger before carrying the remaining time into a study or deadline plan.
